Nichwahr.

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=144795 :

"We've been collecting examples of hub failures under radial spoking, and of 139 hubs the highest number of any type (12) were Campy C-Record. We don't know whether the process selected for C-Record hubs in particular, since we simply asked shops and distributors for pro-level track hubs with radial spoking failures. However, it's pretty clear that they do break a fair amount. We started collecting hub failures for crossed spokings as well, since it became clear that radial spoking wasn't really the horrendous hub-breaker that it was made out to be (we'll put out the results before long in more detail); so far it looks like we'll get more crossed-spoke hub failures than radial ones, although again there are more crossed-spoke hubs out there by a good measure. Again, however, the most common instance is the C-Record (we only count Campy, King, Paul, Phil, Dura Ace, Suzue ProMax, Suntour Superbe, etc. -- no inexpensive hubs).

All that being said, hub failures are quite rare, and typically the rim fails long before the hub. The hub shown in the thread above is not typical of actual hub failures while riding -- they are nearly always zippered fractures from one spoke hole to the next, occasionally penetrating to a flange cutout, but never traveling through multiple cutouts. The hub above looks very much like a hub subject to a hard sideways hit, such as a crash of a car rack. With typical hub failures, you can expect to have an unrideable wheel, but we didn't see one in our study that should have caused a crash.

All that being said, there are other bling hubs out there. Have you checked out the colored Phil Wood SLR's at Yojimbo's Garage? Or the carbon Suzue ProMaxes? Or watch for a pair of Suntour Superbe Pro hubs (there's a beautiful pair of new old stock low flanges on eBay right now)? Or just cough up the money for what Dura Ace 7600's are running these days? Nice hubs all. Or just get a set of Zipp track hubs custom built with their Pave rims -- bombproof and you can't get much flashier (and with what C-Record hubs cost, you won't pay that much more either!!!)."
