Gene Autry was the real deal. long before the other Western stars appeared on the scene Gene Autry was THE MAN, the real deal, a cowboy, who could ride and lasso and use his gun like nobody else. i don't know if it's true ... but I read about it and Old-timers confirmed it: when they shot movies back then ... they used real guns and real bullets ... making a movie at these times was a job for real men. even in our Long Beach neighborhood we have a Gene Autry street.
